The creators' approach to protective graining is particularly impressive; they boldly used static noise instead of the more common dynamic noise. Given the overall low-contrast, grayish, and dark scene-heavy art style of 'Arknights', this static noise treatment does a great job of preserving the original texture and details, while avoiding an overly grainy or frosted-glass appearance. Our production approach focuses mainly on noise processing. We isolated the 8-bit static noise from the source material and weakened it to a level suitable for 10-bit encoding, further reducing any perceptual inconsistencies; at the same time, we adjusted the encoder parameters to better accommodate an input that lacks dynamic noise characteristics.
