The production team tried to hide their situation of underfunding, and yet chose a bad solution by adding tons of fancy VFXs: fast-moving lines, high-strength white noise, and screen VFXs in the flashbacks. None of these are trivial to deal with. The heavy noise consumes a lot of file size in the original sources, so some scenes also show artifacts as a result of lacking bitrate. Given these characteristics, we used relatively strong de-noising and took appropriate measures to fix those bitrate-lacking scenes. We then adjusted encoding parameters to handle the high dynamic range. In addition, there was noticeable ringing in the chroma planes, which we adopted appropriate restoration with the least possible side effects. On this basis, we removed the imperceptible noise to control the bitrate and adopted a preventive de-banding process. S3 has better quality than S2. The native resolution remains the same, but the ringing issue in the chroma planes is greatly improved.
