The rework mainly enhances the methods of line processing, and further deals with colour banding and noise. 全系列制作水平几乎相同，总体来说画质一般。原生分辨率都是 720p，线条有较强的拉升带来的锯齿和晕轮，部分场景有较严重的色带。我们的主要处理手段是逆向拉升再重构，然后是常规的去色带、补偿性锐化、和自适应降噪。 The source quality is almost the same throughout the series, which is average in general and with a native resolution of 720p. Despite this, there are still 2 points bothering us: lines with strong aliasing and haloing (caused by upscaling) and heavy colour banding in some scenes. To fix them, we adopted descaling and reconstruction, then moderate de-banding, compensatory sharpening and adaptive denoising. 第一季原盘的色带问题相对来说更加严重，而且噪点也很难看。特别是第三卷的第 6、7 集可能是制作时出了什么问题，全集都有非常严重的色带，这种问题其他集数也偶尔出现。我们针对性地加大了去色带力度，并削弱了原盘的难看的噪点，替换为较高强度的动态噪点，以改善观感。对于色带特别严重的部分，我们进行了更加暴力的去色带处理。具体可看第 2 组对比图。 Season 1 has much heavier colour banding as well as complicated unsightly noise. These issues are particularly obvious in EP 6 and 7. Maybe due to production mistakes, extremely heavy colour banding is present throughout these two EPs. Some occasional cases are also found in other episodes. We accordingly increased our de-banding intensity, and then replaced the intractable noise with higher intensity of dynamic grains, to improve the viewing experience. For particularly severe colour banding, we performed more aggressive de-banding. The second pair of screenshots are for your reference. 此外，我们还发现第一季的部分分镜有非常严重的色度锯齿，比如 ep13 的 05:53-05:58，黑色线条变成了五彩斑斓的黑。推测是在制作时于 720p 的分辨率下进行了不恰当的色度半采样所致，由于此问题只是偶尔发生，而且还和 Madhouse 祖传的 RGB shift 特效同时出现，排查和修复都比较困难。我们只选了部分特别严重的片段进行处理。具体可看第 3 组对比图。 Besides, severe chroma aliasing is present in some clips of Season 1, such as 5m51s~5m58s in EP 13. As the result, the black lines are not just black but surrounded by colourful aliasing. We guess this is coming from the improper chroma subsampling at 720p resolution during production. Unfortunately, this issue always comes with traditional Madhouse RGB shift effects at the same time, and the fact that it only happens occasionally makes it more difficult to troubleshoot and fix. Therefore, we only selected and processed particularly severe cases.
