A blurring interpolation algorithm was used during upscaling, and there is some haloing and aliasing around the lines caused by upscaling. Also, a few scenes come with slight banding. Our solution is to descale and reconstruct the images while reserving the parts which are natively 1080p, followed by the usual de-banding, contra-sharpening and adaptive de-noising. That being said, a 720p native resolution for a movie is somewhat disappointing. The line-art throughout the movie is faint, and the intentionally added filters and grain further worsened the sharpness in a way that descaling and reconstruction couldn't make a miracle. We attempted to eliminate the aliasing and raise the sharpness by combining descaling, reconstructing and anti-aliasing. We applied mild de-banding to remove those in dark scenes, also routine adaptive sharpening and de-noising. The on-screen texts were attended to with care. We allocated sufficient bit-rate to best maintain dark and motion scenes in the source. 断裁分离的罪恶之剪 / The Severing Crime Edge / 断裁分離のクライムエッジ BDRip 10-bit 1080p HEVC + FLAC，MKV 格式。每话约 850 MB。原盘制作质量一般，作画精度为720p，整体画风柔和、线条鲜明。画面的主要问题为强烈的色带，在黄昏深夜等高反差场景尤其明显；而制作方加入的噪点，非但没有起到遮盖色带的作用，反而让纹理显得肮脏。我们针对修复了拉伸算法造成的线条瑕疵，提高了去色带处理的强度，并移除了大部分噪点。 The source has an average picture quality and a native resolution at 720p. Its art style features a blending of sharp, dark line art with softer textures. However, strong color banding is prevalent among scenes with high contrast (e.g. dawn and night scenes). While constant film grain was added in Blu-ray production, not only did it fail to mitigate color banding issues, but it also caused the textures to look unclean, which is undesirable. During post-processing, we adaptively repaired edge artifacts introduced by upscaling, increased the strength of debanding filters, and removed most of the film grain. We can see Xebec spent effort in creating the CG drawings, dark scenes and a 24fps ED. Unfortunately, the sharp edges have significant aliasing in both luma and chroma planes, making non-destructive anti-aliasing challenging. The strong and fine film grain has also made it difficult for x265 to encode the anime at an acceptable bitrate. To tackle the problems, we adopted a hybrid anti-aliasing approach combining traditional and non-conventional techniques, and operated under the YUV444 color space. The approach repaired most chroma aliasing and without damaging the sharp colored edges. Meanwhile, a tailored grain processing procedure was formulated, which achieved a good balance between picture style preservation and bitrate saving. Based on a previous encode released by Lolihouse, we adjusted anti-aliasing strength of the luma plane to better preserve FHD details, and optimized x265's parameters alongside. VCB-Studio 2022 春季组员招募大家好，VCB-Studio 2022 春季招新现已开放报名。本次招新分流组，欢迎大家踊跃报名。具体要求如下：分流组家宽：200 Mbps 下载 / 30 Mbps 上传，不封 P2P，端口能正常打开（移动宽带需要有公网 IPv4）。每天能至少 8 小时开机进行做种挂机，硬盘能用来分流的剩余空间需要有 1 TB，月上传量大约需要 2 TB / 月。有对等高速企业宽带或独立 NAS 以及能 24 小时开机做种的优先。如果是盒子用户则需要独服，宽带 1000 Mbps 以上，配置稍高同时具备基本的调试优化技巧（不然你流量真的跟不上），要求月上传量达到 50 TB。有意报名的同学，请直接加群 873142259（QQ 可能出现搜不到的情况，请多点几下搜索按钮，就能刷出来了）。

We targeted the line-art with anti-aliasing and Contra-sharpening. We also applied adaptive de-noising to maintain a reasonable file size.
