[PPP-RAW] Lensman movie Piyo Piyo Productions presents: Lensman (the movie) 4/29/2015 Plot synopsis: The story is about a dying Lensman who transfers his Lens to a young man named Kimball Kinnison. To his best knowledge, Kim wasn't aware of how big the responsibility of holding the Lens is. This Lens contains vital information that would enable the Galactic Patrol to face the deadly DNA weapon created by the Boskone Empire. The Arisians initially were the ones who created the Lens in order to stand up to the evil Eddorians, because in spite of their great power, they alone could not vanquish the Eddorian menace. Through the Lens, the Lensmen minds were merged with the cosmic conscientiousness of Arisia. On another side is Lord Helmuth, the ruthless, merciless Boskone leader, who would stop at nothing to get his hands on the Lens. Project notes: I was going to work on something else next, but the guy who requested I finally release The Visuallist Series also informed me that the existing rips of Lensman are all from the shitty Streamline laserdisc that has janky Japanese audio. It was never reissued on DVD due to rights issues, and a lot of the original Japanese LDs are rotted. Mine, fortunately is in great shape. But don't take my word for it - see for yourself! The letterboxing on the original disc is oddly jittery - I've never really seen that before. I fixed it by cropping it out and using Avisynth to add new borders. I've had trouble with jerky panning before, but this one cleaned up real nicely. Nevertheless, I am including both my X264 filtered version and an untouched DVD conversion for future editions. SOPPY TL;DR ADDENDUM, 5/1/15 Release was delayed because my friend, KT, was released from the psych ward of the hospital - for the third time in the past two months. Another friend and I stayed at his place to try to make sure he did not go back again. We failed. He quickly reeled out of control, would not take his medication, and we soon found the situation to be untenable and dangerous. KT was once a great person. He was a good guy to hang with. We played boardgames together every week. He was a highly successful artist for certain mobile games. But that KT... that KT has slipped away from us. Mental illness is some serious stuff. KT is (was?) a great fan of anime, particularly older "classic" anime, and was quite excited that I had captured Lensman. I am afraid he will never see it now. As of right now, the evening of 5/1/15, KT is wandering the street of Philadelphia, his whereabouts unknown. He is essentially living out the early Tom Hanks movie, Mazes and Monsters (see http://spoonyexperiment.com/movie-reviews/mazes-monsters-2/ ), obsessed with a game in his head, scavenging debris from the streets to gather its "power." We can't stop him. As another friend put it, to console me, "He has become a force of nature - you are just a man." He has no access to his money (which is for the best), no ID, and has destroyed his cel phone. We've advised those who know him to contact 911 if they see him. Hopefully the police will pick him up, unharmed. Until then, all we can do is hope for the best, and prepare for the worst. Farewell, KT. Maybe I'll see you again, someday.
